Life With Pads

By Paige

Pads are a disposable (though washable pads exist) menstrual product, and probably the second most well known, next to tampons. They are flat and absorbent, and many people use them. They do, however, have pros and cons. Here are just a few:
Pros (Mostly opinion, not facts):
- More comfortable than tampons.
-There is less concern about them leaking.
- Less noticeable for the person wearing one.
- They're flat and can be stashed in purses or wallet or even pockets without being too noticeable.
Cons (Also opinion) :
-When you sit down, you're sitting on blood. Ew.
-Just like with tampons, they're LOUD. If you're opening one in a public restroom, everyone will hear it. There is no right way to open it! They're sticky on one side so it'll stick to the underwear, which makes them tricky to dispose of.
- You cannot wear them to swim. Okay, I say 'cannot' but it is possible, just a lot more difficult and not the best idea.
- They're not flushable. If you throw one of these in the toilet, it will most likely flood.
If you've never used a pad, I'd advise it. They're comfortable, despite their flaws. At first, them may be tricky to dispose of, but it's not hard to get the hang of it.
Despite the pros and cons, pads are a useful product, and life with them isn't so bad.
