Sleeping on Your Period

By Paige

You're lying on your bed, wearing your favorite pajamas, bundled up under the covers, drifting into dreamland. Morning arrives and though you didn't see it coming, it's there.
      A huge red bloodstain.
As horrid as it may be, laundry should be done immediately, or else the stain will set. There are many lot to remove stains and the effectiveness varies. Try cold water to remove wet stains. Any set-in stain will take more effort. The Flow Blog might do an article on this later.
Wear dark and loose clothes, preferably ones you don't mind if they get stained. Spread a towel, so if your pad or other product leaks, you won't get it on the sheets.
To prevent surprise stains while sleeping from happening, I advise you mark a calendar. It may seem silly, but if you know it's coming, marking your calendar may prevent bad situations. Periods tend to be irregular, so leave be prepared a few days early, and don't panic a few days later.
      Now on to actual sleeping.
As we all know, cramping is horrible and at night, it may prevent you from sleep. If you have a heatbag, I've heard those work wonders. If not, the Flow Blog has an article on that. Midol is helpful, but only take it as much as the label says.
Don't sleep in a tampon. This is purely my opinion, but tampons are uncomfortable enough as it is, much less in the middle of the night. Pads are the best way to go, though I've never tried a Moon Cup or other similar products, which might work equally as well. Change your pad or other similar product right before bed.
      Good night.
